militaryassistance

"*" indicates required fields

The Department of Defense (DoD) is the nation's largest federal agency, overseeing approximately 2.9 million service members and civilian personnel. Its jurisdiction encompasses the seven branches of the Uniformed Services: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard.

Common Areas of Assistance

  • Service Member Benefits: My office can request assistance for service members who have seen a disruption in benefits and services such as pay, healthcare, housing, childcare, and more.
  • Reassignment Requests: My office can submit formal status inquiries regarding pending Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders. We can also support requests for compassionate reassignments or hardship deferments due to immediate family circumstances.
  • Service Member Discharge Disputes: My office can provide administrative assistance to veterans and service members seeking to correct errors in their official military records. We can facilitate status inquiries with the Discharge Review Board (DRB) for discharge upgrades or the Board for Correction of Military Records (BCMR) for record adjustments, such as correcting reasons for separation or reenlistment (RE) codes.
  • Official Military Personnel File: My office can help you obtain your Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) and ensure your application is being processed according to established agency timelines.
  • Enlistment Concerns: My office can assist constituents who are experiencing administrative delays during the enlistment and accession process. We can facilitate formal inquiries with the Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM) regarding stalled medical or background screenings, and request status updates on pending medical and administrative waivers at the branch level.

Limitations to Assistance

My office will do everything possible to assist constituents within the legal and practical limitations of a congressional office. Please note that a congressional inquiry does not guarantee faster processing or a favorable outcome. If my office reviews your concern and determines that it falls outside the scope of congressional assistance, my office will do our best to direct you to the appropriate resource for further help.

  • Military Court: My office is strictly prohibited from intervening in matters governed by the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). We cannot provide legal advice, interfere in ongoing criminal investigations, or influence the outcomes of Court-Martials, Non-Judicial Punishments (Article 15s), or administrative separation boards. Those in need of legal assistance may use the Armed Forces Legal Assistance tool to find representation.
  • Overturning Official Decisions: My office is unable to overturn decisions made by most federal agencies.
