The Department of Labor (DOL) administers federal labor laws to guarantee workers' rights to fair, safe, and healthy working conditions, including minimum hourly wage and overtime pay, and protection against employment discrimination. If you encounter issues trying to access labor-related federal benefits such as Worker's Compensation, Family and Medical Leave, or Retirement Benefits, or believe federal law has been violated in your workplace, my office will be happy to assist you.
Common Areas of Assistance
Workers' Compensation
My office can assist with issues involving existing cases or claims with the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs. We are able to send inquiries for status checks on existing cases and request explanations.
Retirement Benefits
For former federal employees, my office can contact your former federal employer to ensure all of your documents have been reviewed and sent to the Office of Personnel Management to process your retirement benefits. From there, my office can contact OPM for a status check on these benefits and confirmation that they received your documentation.
Workplace Discrimination
My office can ask for status checks on discrimination complaints filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), request additional clarity, or further explanation of the agency's policies. If you would like to file a complaint, you may do so on the EEOC website.
Limitations to Assistance
My office will do everything possible to assist constituents within the legal and practical limitations of a congressional office. Please note that a congressional inquiry does not guarantee faster processing or a favorable outcome. If my office reviews your concern and determines that it falls outside the scope of congressional assistance, my office will do our best to direct you to the appropriate resource for further help.
- Overturning Decisions: My office is unable to overturn the decisions of a federal agency. Constituents should file an appeal to their decision if they are unhappy with the outcome of their issue.
- Filing On Your Behalf: My office is unable to file complaints or open cases with federal agencies on behalf of constituents. Once the filing has been completed, however, we are able to send an inquiry.
- Private Entities: My office cannot intervene in matters between private entities, so we are only able to assist with ongoing issues involving federal agencies.
- Legal Advice: My office is unable to provide legal advice or representation. Constituents seeking legal counsel should contact a qualified attorney. For a list of resources, please click here.
