Warren, Trahan Statement Following Burlington ICE Facility Site Visit

Burlington, Mass. — U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and U.S. Representative Lori Trahan (D-Mass.) released the following statement following a congressional oversight visit to Burlington ICE facility, where dozens of individuals have been detained:

“We exercised our constitutional responsibilities to conduct oversight and made an unannounced visit to an ICE facility. Immigration attorneys and community advocates have shared deeply worrisome testimonies with our offices of individuals being detained by ICE for multiple days without access to adequate food, medical care, or sleeping conditions. During the hour-long inspection of the Burlington facility, we walked through every part of the area in which people are detained. We witnessed over two dozen individuals held for processing, questioned ICE regarding our constituents’ concerns, and pressed for more humane treatment of those in custody. We will continue showing up and fighting for transparency, decency, and accountability.”
