Statement from Senator Warren on New Report on Student Borrower Defense

Washington, DC - United States Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) today issued the following statement in response to the release of a new report from the Department of Education's Office of Inspector General on the federal student loan borrower defense loan discharge process:

"In today's report, the Education Department's nonpartisan, independent watchdog recommends that the Department resume processing loan relief applications for defrauded students - and confirms that Secretary DeVos' Department has harmed tens of thousands of these students by freezing their loan relief with no justification. Now Secretary DeVos has absolutely no excuse - it's time to cancel these fraudulent loans."

Last month, Senator Warren released a report with Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) detailing how the Department of Education and Secretary DeVos have failed tens of thousands of Americans by refusing to cancel the loans of students who were defrauded by predatory colleges.
