The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is the federal agency responsible for providing benefits and services to eligible U.S. veterans, their families, and survivors. The agency operates via three main branches: the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), which provides comprehensive medical care; the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), which administers compensation and pension programs; and the National Cemetery Administration (NCA), which provides burial and memorial benefits.
Common Areas of Assistance
Disability + Pension: I can help constituents who contact my office with a Disability Compensation or Pension claim that has been stuck in processing. My office can request a status update, and submit information about a constituent's extenuating circumstances.
Healthcare + Housing: My office can help relay a veteran's current healthcare and/or housing situation to the VA to secure assistance with the application process for VA benefits.
Memorial Assistance: My office can help veterans and eligible family members secure the dignified and respectful interment benefits available in national cemeteries, such as headstones, grave markers, and Presidential Memorial Certificates.
Limitations to Assistance
My office will do everything possible to assist constituents within the legal and practical limitations of a congressional office. Please note that a congressional inquiry does not guarantee faster processing or a favorable outcome. If my office reviews your concern and determines that it falls outside the scope of congressional assistance, my office will do our best to direct you to the appropriate resource for further help.
- Filing for Benefits: My office is unable to help veterans file their applications for benefits. Veterans should contact their local Veterans Service Officer (VSO) for assistance with that process. My office can provide contact information for those organizations.
- Ongoing Court Cases: My office cannot interfere with ongoing court cases involving federal judicial reviews of official VA benefits decisions. My office will gladly provide the contact information for pro-bono legal resources for further assistance.
- State Level Inquiries: My office cannot intervene in situations involving state-level veterans' matters, such as state-run education benefit programs or state property tax exemption applications. Veterans should contact their State Legislator for assistance.
