Georgetown Record: GFD awarded $25k grant

The Georgetown Fire Department has been awarded a $25,000 federal grant to upgrade their hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known by the trademark "Jaws of Life."

GFD Chief Al Beardsley said the department was recently notified of winning the grant by Senator Elizabeth Warren's office and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The GFD expects the new tools to arrive at the firehouse by early September, replacing existing hydraulic rescue equipment first purchased by the department in the 1970's.

The AFG is a competitive grant program through which cities and town throughout the United States present their case for funding of equipment.
