Wicked Local: Hanover, Halifax fire departments get federal grants
June 20, 2014
The Hanover and Halifax fire departments have received federal grants totaling $635,792 for upgrades to facilities and equipment.
Halifax will get the biggest check - $540,792 - for a regional communications center.
Hanover will use its $95,000 to install a sprinkler system at its fire headquarters.
The money is part of $783,232 in Federal Emergency Management Agency funds awarded to four Massachusetts fire departments through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. The other grants went to the Belchertown and Sherborn departments.
"Day in and day out, our firefighters put themselves in harm's way to protect our families," U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren said.
"These grants will help ensure Massachusetts firefighters have the equipment and resources they need to safely and effectively do their jobs. I applaud our fire chiefs and their departments for their efforts to get these critical AFG grants, and for their tireless service to our communities."
