Statement by Senator Warren Following Vote to Proceed to Pharmaceutical Compounding Legislation

Washington, DC - United States Senator Elizabeth Warren today released the following statement after the Senate successfully voted to begin consideration of the Drug Quality and Security Act:

"I'm pleased the Senate has voted to consider the Drug Quality and Security Act, which will help regulate the pharmaceutical compounding industry and secure our pharmaceutical supply chain. Because the tragic fungal meningitis outbreak that killed 64 people and made 751 sick just last year originated in our state, regulation of drug compounding is particularly important to the people of Massachusetts. Senator Kennedy fought hard to rein in this industry, and I'm proud to continue his fight. I urge my colleagues to pass this bipartisan, bicameral legislation to improve public health and safety and to protect families."
